Cruel and Unusual Punishment...
Amendment VIII of the Constitution: Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishment inflicted.
As expected, I will speak of cruel and unusual punishment, mainly the death penalty...
I am as excited as the next person when I hear about somebody that is to fry or get poisoned to death for crimes for which they have been convicted. My attention is piqued and I follow those rare occurrences with great interest. I find it quite interesting that the United States can legally commit such a heinous act of murder. I liken it to a father telling his child "do what I say, not what I do". The principles wreak of hypocrisy. What is more cruel than murder? Unusual, what is more unusual to the convicted than being murdered, it only can happen once in a lifetime. There is nothing more unusual! And with preemptive strikes and about a hundred thousand innocent people killed by the actions of this government, what right do they have saying that when a person takes a life that they deserve death themselves. If the government was held by the same standards then we would have to euthanize this government. They should consider acting more like a parent when dealing with criminals. Cruel punishment would be that which a mother or father (of sound mind) could not bring themselves to inflict upon their children.
